Garnishes

It is said that we do not only eat with our eyes; we drink with them too. Letting a lemon or lime wedge rest on the top of the iceberg in a long drink has two obvious benefits:
A) It looks good.
B) If the drink isn’t sour enough for your guest, he/she can squeeze the lime to sourness perfection.
Here are some tips on how to make your drinks look extra tasty.

I was wondering if something outside the glass could be considered garnish, if it helps improve the look of the drink, or does it have to be in or on the glass? Would flowers or fruit around the glass be considered to be garnish?
