Vancouver is located in the southwest corner of the world's second largest country. This is where you will find what is probably the hottest bar district in the country, crammed into one single street – Granville Street. And there is one bar in particular, The Republic at number 958, where all the groovers in Vancouver go for the best drinks, the most famous DJs and the longest opening hours in the entertainment district.
Jeff Donnelly, president of the Donnelly Group of Bars explains why Vancouver is the best place to go for Canadian nightlife:
"Aside from Montreal, Vancouver has more of an international flair than other cities and has a great DJ scene. Overall, Vancouver is a little more progressive and ahead of the trends then most of the cities in Canada."
After two years of anticipation, The Republic finally saw the light of day in May 2006. Most Vancouver bars and nightclubs have smaller patron capacities than in most international cities. The Republic, however, is the kind of place that anyone can adapt to. The music varies from new wave and electronica to classic hits from the 50's, depending on what night you visit.
But it's not only the wide range of music styles and the late opening hours that make people come to the stylish venue. The cocktails, served by Megan Harris, are absolute killers."
